Sensory Stations

Art Learning Lab is a dedicated exhibition space inspired by Sowing Creativity, the Museum’s award-winning cross-curricular art program. Featuring a diverse selection of work from the permanent collection, the Art Learning Lab reveals how artists engage cross-disciplinary concepts in their approach to art-making. Through interactive play and experimentation, visitors are encouraged to draw their own connections between individual creative exploration and the ideas, tools, and techniques used in the artwork on display.

Deborah Butterfield, Scent Memory Station. This station will have scent-filled containers relating to the sculpture (wood, dirt, mountain air, etc.)

Garner Tullis, Sensory Wall. Three panels with various latches, levers, buckles, and textures for visitors to explore tactually.

Ruth Bernhard, Light and Prisms. This activity uses clear cubes covered in dichroic film. The film filters and reflects light in a way that will project multi-colored reflection inside an open box shape. Visitors will be able to manipulate the cubes to create the effect.
